With the recent relaxation in Thailand’s regulations, chartering a yacht in the paradise waters surrounding the ‘Land of a Thousand Smiles’ has never been easier. Over 5,000 miles of coastline beckon and YACHTZOO has picked our favourite ideas for yacht charter activities, from pampering in five-star spa resorts to pelagic diving in the Gulf of Thailand.

STARTING OUT FROM PHUKET

A popular point of embarkation on a yacht charter in Thailand is Phuket. Settled on the island’s idyllic western shores, the Amanpuri has been voted as the best spa in Asia numerous times. This Aman Spa offers an extensive selection of treatments including roasted coconut scrubs and sandalwood wraps, and activities such as yoga and meditation are also on offer. Those not so keen on a spa day can play a round at one of the five nearby golf courses.

HEADING NORTH FROM PHUKET:

KOH MIANG – KOH BON – KOH TACHAI – RICHELIEU ROCK – MYANMAR

Koh Miang is the postcard-perfect place for exploring the white-sand beach and enjoying a sundowner with an elegant evening meal set up by the crew.

At Koh Bon north of the Simian Islands you will find the best dive site for manta rays, and keep your eyes peeled for the local leopard sharks and rare purple fire goby.

The idyllic island paradise of Koh Tachai is a great spot for tropic snorkelling or diving, while you are most likely to experience diving with a whale shark at Richelieu Rock. Or head out on the yacht’s toys for fun on the water with jet skis, towables or kayaks.

Myanmar is one of the more popular areas for a yacht charter in the region. Undeveloped natural beauty and stunning waters will welcome you. Take a swim with some gentle elephants or explore the lush tropical forest.

HEADING SOUTH FROM PHUKET:

KOH PANYI – KOH KHAI NOK – KRABI – RACHA ISLANDS

From Phuket, head into the protected waters of Phang-nga National Park to visit the fascinating floating muslim village of Koh Panyi, where fishermen live beneath the sheer limestone cliffs in houses on stilts.

At Koh Khai Nok, you will find lush forests to hike, and mysterious tunnels through vast rocky cliffs.

In Krabi Province, drop anchor near Ban-Bor Thor village and take to the kayaks to explore the 10 historical cave painting sites, passing through mangroves and limestone sea caves along the way.

Head into the green hills and walk among the coconut plantations of Racha Yai of the Racha Islands before enjoying a five-star dinner at the Racha Resort.
