Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ)

What can you see and do on a Mexico yacht charter?

The Sea of Cortez

The Sea of Cortez, also known as the World’s Aquarium, is a natural haven nestled between the Baja California peninsula and Mexico’s mainland.

Baja is the second-longest peninsula in the world, extending out over 1,200km to offer sheltered, rugged and mysterious waters to cruise on your Mexico yacht charter. The region is popular with those seeking a peaceful break, as well as those who like to explore and adventure in nature-rich destinations. The Sea of Cortez features a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising 244 islands and coastal areas.

Whether you enjoy life below the water’s surface or above it, rent a yacht in Mexico to enjoy all there is on offer for the family; from swimming with the enigmatic migrating whale sharks to hikes over pinkish-white peaks to kayaking through emerald-green waters.

The Marine Protected Area at Cabo Pulmo offers sanctuary to all manner of wildlife, being one of the most successful marine parks in the world. Those who like to explore life under the water’s surface will not be disappointed. Cabo Pulmo is renowned for providing the best diving and snorkelling in the region, as well as being home to the Sea of Cortez’s only Pacific coral reef.

If you prefer exploring ashore, jump in a 4×4 and head inland to visit the wonders of the Sierra de la Laguna or the sand dunes to the south of the peninsula.

Isla Espíritu Santo to the north of La Paz is regarded by many as the most beautiful island in the Sea of Cortez. The uninhabited lunar landscape is a superb backdrop to a coastal cruise through gem-hued waters with bright white beaches ripe for barefoot exploration.

The reefs surrounding the island are teeming with the likes of parrotfish, angelfish and trumpetfish as well as sharks, rays, turtles, dolphins and whales. A local colony of sea lions to the north offers plenty of entertainment for spectators and a chance to snorkel with these playful sea mammals.

Swimming with whale sharks is a lifelong dream for many. The largest fish in the ocean can be found in the Bay of La Paz in the Sea of Cortez between early winter and late spring, and there is no more comfortable way of ticking this experience off your bucket list than on a luxury yacht charter in Mexico. Baja California Yacht Charter To those in the know, Baja California to the north of the peninsula offers a rich tapestry of wineries and top-level restaurants to excite your palate. Take a trip to the Valle de Guadalupe on your private Baja California yacht charter and be rewarded by the produce of the 60-plus wineries that are being called the ‘next Napa’.

Immerse yourself in the culture of La Paz, Baja California Sur’s capital. Walk along the seafront Malecón promenade before exploring the buzzing local art scene, followed by dinner at one of the city’s contemporary restaurants.

Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas at the peninsula’s tip is popular with an international crowd that enjoys upscale beach resorts, vibrant nightlife and fantastic restaurants.

For a more laid back vibe, head to the Pacific Coast and the picturesque village of Todos Santos, famed for its art galleries and excellent surf breaks nearby.

When to charter a yacht in Mexico

The best time to visit Mexico by yacht charter is from December through to April. These months are known as the dry season, when visitors will enjoy lots of sunshine and hardly any rain. December, January and February are cooler but still enjoy average highs of 28°C/82.4°F in the warmest parts of the country, while March enjoys highs of 29°C and April sees highs of 30°C. Remember that Mexico’s size means average temperatures vary between regions.

May until late October is the rainy season, while June to November is hurricane season, so these are months to avoid when planning a yacht charter in Mexico.

The shoulder months of October, November, March, and April tend to have slightly less wind, but they are also a lot cooler. Best to be prepared for all weather conditions regardless of when you visit.
