Exciting news for the Greek Yachting Sector, as the Greek Government announced that, as of December 29, 2023, the electronic application of “e-Charter Permission” is put into operation, which marks another step in the transition of yachting to the digital age and the opening of the market to more vessels creating value added to services already on offer in Greece.

The new “e-CharterPermission” platform and application, which can be found here, awards “charter permission” for contracts executed entirely within Greek territory and under the “Charter Permission Plus” option licensing for full charter contracts with sailing activities starting or ending in Greece.

This application is a simplified process, through a one-stop service, that will facilitate the legal operation of professional pleasure vessels, under a foreign flag of more than 35m in Greece, which have been granted the right to operate commercially in Greece, subject to terms and conditions. At the same time, through its operation, it will be possible to record, monitor and control the actual activity of the ships concerned by the specific service.

Simply put, it is required that the yacht:

  • Is commercially registered on a foreign flag (non-Greek);
  • Is over 35m in length and;
  • Is constructed with a mainly plastic or steel hull.

The newly launched e-charter permit is initially set at twenty-eight (28) days, which nevertheless, can be subject to modification.

The ministry said the aim of the new system is to stimulate marine tourism, contribute to the development of a local pleasure boat cluster, the creation of new jobs, the provision of incentives to professional recreational boats (commercial yachts) to home port in Greece, and to support the national economy, while effectively responding to the modern demands and challenges of internationalized maritime tourism.

Yachtzoo is pleased to announce that it is prepared to navigate the digital age of yachting with the official launch of Greece’s Online Yacht Charter System and the introduction of the “e-Charter Permission.” This move, along with the recently acquired Document of Compliance from the Hellenic Shipping Registry, gives Yachtzoo the ability to offer its full range of yacht management services both domestically and abroad, including the stunning waters of Greece.
