Luxury Yacht Charters: Solomon Islands
Diving in the Solomon Islands
Luxury yacht charters in the Solomon Islands go off the beaten track. Unspoiled and all relatively untouched by the influence of the modern world, this undiscovered paradise remains much as it has for centuries. On land, the topography is visually stunning.
The diving found around the islands is unrivalled – from WWII wrecks found deep beneath the surface; to an abundance of sea life that gives the Solomon’s a world-class reputation.

What kind of experiences are there to enjoy on luxury yacht charters in the Solomon Islands?
You will explore the volcanic islands, croc-infested mangroves, huge lagoons, tropical islets and emerald forests that are scattered with WWII relics. The region is also rich in culture and renowned for its relaxed and happy way of life. You will combine your time ashore with visits to local communities to immerse yourself in their lifestyle.
On a two week dive trip with YACHTZOO, expect to encounter sharks, manta rays, barracudas, jack points and turtles, not to mention the macro life and wrecks. Swim through volcanic lava tubes in a magical cave dive, lit by sun beams.
PELORUS is partnered with ‘Plastic Free Solomon Islands’ and you can take part in local efforts, visiting the ‘cookers’ that help convert ocean waste to energy. You can dive rare world heritage sites and top-secret areas that very few people have seen. Work with Rangers turtle tagging and search for the elusive dugong amongst the sea grass.
WHEN TO GO: Diving is great year round in the Solomon Islands. Between the months of June and September, the sea is often more rough then the rest of the year, but you can still dive. The wet season goes from November to April, peaking in January and February.
Where to visit on a trip to the Solomon Islands?
Dive in Ironbottom Sound, the passage between Florida Islands and Guadalcanal. Its name comes from the dozens of ships and planes that sank in this water during the Battle of Guadalcanal, including Hirokawu Maru, USS Kanawha & USS Aaron Ward: a 150m-long oil tanker sitting upright, and a 106m-long US Navy destroyer, or dive in Twin Tunnels and Manta Passage, boasting regular sightings of huge manta rays.
Explore the famous Twin Tunnels; two tunnels that drop vertically from 12 metres to 35 metres, ending in a cave. While diving through the walls of the lava tubes you will see fans and whip corals before reaching the cave which is home to schools of fusiliers, snapper, corals, cuttlefish, octopus and manris shrimp. You may even spot grey reef sharks cruising by.
The diving around Uepi Island mainly consists of a combination of coral gardens and magnificent drop-offs. There are a multitude of dive sites available ranging from the beautiful reef eco-system, to the wreck of a P38 fighter plane just 1 hour from the resort. Most dives range from 15-30 metres – from here you can spot the resident sharks and an enormous diversity of reef fish
Gizo is renowned for having some of the most diverse and exciting diving in the Pacific region. From WWII wrecks to numerous offshore reefs, Gizo has it all. Spectacular coral formations, plummeting walls, manta rays and an abundance of marine life can be found in this island paradise.
Munda is still largely unexplored with new dives sites being discovered regularly. Majestic wall dives and virgin reefs are specialities of this area. The soft coral overhangs of Mushroom Island, the 4km drop at Shark Point and the amazingly colourful coral of Rainbow Passage are fast becoming renowned as world class dive sites with intense big fish and shark action.
What are the major yachting ports in The Solomons?
Honiara is a point of entry and both here and Munda have experience with yachts, otherwise assume you will be running at anchor.
